ARTASHAVI: CARS ARE MANY, THERE IS NO ROAD

26 families, 93 people, live in the village of Artashavi, Kashatagh
region.
Like elsewhere in the north of the region, the people of the village
keep cattle although there is no market to sell their products. The
milk should be sold in Berdzor, but the villagers say the cost of
transport is so high that they do not consider taking the milk to sell
in the town. There are cars in the village but the road is in such
a bad state that after a trip they have to take the car to the garage.
There used to be a coach to Artashavi and the neighboring villages
the costs of which were covered by the regional administration. The
villagers took their products to Berdzor by coach. Some time ago the
regional administration cut funding, and the driver of the bus refused
to work. He says he cannot cover the costs. "We need to replace
tires once in six months, and each tire costs 75 thousand drams,"
said the driver of the coach Telman Avetyan to the correspondent of
Karabakh-Open.com. The bus was always overloaded, we often brought
flour because there is no shop in the village, the people of the
village say.
You cannot go without a car in the village, therefore every family
needs to buy a car before they buy furniture for their house.
The best way would be if the processor bought milk in the village. It
may help solve several problems, the villagers say.
There are too many problems, including high taxes, which they often
cannot afford to pay. The villagers say already ten families have
left the village.
Water is also a problem in Artashavi. The source is 4 km from the
village and flows through an open canal. The villagers advised not
to look into the canal, they said we might see anyone there. Although
they are glad that the problem of drinking water was solved somehow.
Every problem can be solved. Therefore, 45 children go to the school
of the neighboring village. They only wish the government were willing
to solve their problems.
