ArmInfo. There is no alternative to Armenian Prime Minister Serzh
Sargsyan, the candidate from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), at
the forthcoming presidential election in Armenia, RPA Deputy Chairman,
RPA faction member Galoust Sahakyan said at a press-conference at
the Mirror discussion club.

According to him, the RPA takes any opponent at the election seriously,
but it is sure of the victory of its candidate. As regards the
first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, G.Sahakyan said:
"One shouldn’t think that we spend sleepless nights thinking how
to spite Ter-Petrosyan. He presents charges against us, we have to
respond, and people will give the final assessment at the Feb 19,
2008 presidential election".

Moreover, G.Sahakyan noted that he qualifies Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s
speech at the Oct 26 rally at Liberty Square as a cultural value. "We
disturb nobody.

The police will not put obstacles in the way of Ter- Petrosyan and
his followers to hold their rally in the near future. As for me,
I take everything easy and even keep his speech on DVD," he said.

Nevertheless, G.Sahakyan didn’t refrain from criticizing the first
president. He said that, first and foremost, it is the fault of
Ter-Petrosyan and his administration that intellectuals became
castaways of the society during their term in office. "For this
reason at least they shouldn’t strive for a revenge. And the fact
that it is a revenge indeed is proved by the "black lists" published
by Ter-Petrosyan at the rally, his promises to pay the present regime
back, and many other things," he said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
