‘ARMENTEL’ INVESTED ABOUT $63 MLN IN UPGRADING IN 2007

ArmInfo. "ArmenTel" CJSC invested about $63 mln in the Company’s
upgrading from early 2007 to the midst of November, Director General of
"ArmenTel" Oleg Blizniuk told journalists today.
He said that the investments were attracted mainly to upgrading of
the network, implementation of a new billing center and development
of information technologies. The director general said that the
Company will master $90 mln of investments till the end, 2007. He
called the current year difficult for "ArmenTel" as "it underwent
many changes and alterations". The plan of investments for 2008 is
worked out taking into account the subscribers’ needs and now it
is specified, O. Blizniuk said. He added that "ArmenTel" intends to
develop both the cell network and the fixed one in 2008. The Company
will complete digitization of ATS in Yerevan in the near future. At
late, 2008, it may pass to the new plan of numeration and implement
seven-digit telephone numbers in Yerevan and six-digit ones in the
regions instead of the present six-digit and five-digit numbers,
respectively. "ArmenTel" intends to change the numeration plan only
if demand is available in the market.
Oleg Blizniuk also commented on the information in the Armenian press
saying that "ArmenTel" dismisses its employees in order to sale the
fixed business.
O. Blizniuk called it a "real raving". He explained that "ArmenTel" had
never followed the requirements of RA Labour Legislation before. "We
have to follow these requirements. It became clear during the
professional inspections that many employees cannot take stay at the
positions they take for a number of professional diseases. Dismissals
and transfer of the people to another job give us no pleasure as
we loose professional staff as a result of it, the people , who had
worked in the Company for 20-30 years", O. Blizniuk said.
To recall, 100% of shares of "ArmenTel" CJSC belong to the "Vimpelcom"
Ltd.
