YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. The heads of three territorial
structures of "National Unity" (NU) party have issued a statement
about joining the movement led by the first Armenian president Levon
Ter-Petrosian. The statement in particular reads: "Having participated
in the sitting of the "National Unity" party’s chairmanship on
November 27, 2007, we came to the conclusion that the NU is not
inclined to struggle for removal of the current authorities, quite
the opposite, it contributes to this system’s reproduction. So we,
the undersigned, decline to support the NU’s program to run in
the presidential elections by proposing its own candidate and we
join the popular movement led by the Armenia’s founding president
L. Ter-Petrosian. We call on all honest and decent members of the
"National Unity" party to follow suit".

The statement was signed by the head of NU party’s Gavar territorial
structure Papin Galoyan, the head of the NU Hrazdan territorial
structure Norberd Hovakimian, and the head of the NU Erebuni
territorial structure Gurgen Grigorian.

A press release was received from the "National Unity" party on
November 28, according to which "the participants of the party’s
enlarged sitting held the day before condemned the attempts of
L. Ter-Petrosian’s supporters to attract to their side, by means of
blackmail and bribery, some NU members who are now in a socially hard
condition." According to the press release, "during debates, none
of those present (74 participants) expressed disagreement regarding
the issues addressed by the speech-makers at the chairmanship’s
sitting – none of the participants without exception, including the
representative of the village of Karmir of the Gavar territorial
structure Papin Galoyan and the representative of the village of
Atabekian of the Hrazdan territorial structure". "On November 28,
we read in the pro-ANM (Armenian National Movement) press that these
persons did not agree with the chairmanship’s decision and will
support Levon Ter-Petrosian.

The press service of the "National Unity" party is empowered to
congratulate Levon Ter-Petrosian on occasion of "strengthening"
the team of his supporters," NU’s press release reads.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
