Adviser to NKR President Arman Melikyan told a news conference in
Yerevan today that he has filed his resignation and intends to run
for President in Armenia.

Arman Melikyan, 44, said he took the decision to participate in the
presidential elections in late October. "I do not consider myself to be
an alternative candidate, but I have my view of bringing the country
out of today’s situation," he declared. According to Mr. Melikyan,
the actual start of the election struggle has created a real danger
of civil clashes, as a result of which the positions of the Armenian
side may be damaged in the process of Karabakh settlement.

Arman Melikyan declared that "the return of liberated territories
can empty Nagorno Karabakh in the future."

"There are no real prerequisites for the return of these territories,
and Armenian must not address these issues instead of solving the
Karabakh issue," he declared.
