ARMENIA BUYS AIRBUS -319 TO FLY PRESIDENT AND OTHER TOP OFFICIALS

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS: Armenia has acquired a
1998-manufactured Airbus-319 aircraft to transport the country’s
president and other top government officials.

The Airbus-319 will replace a Russia-made Tu-134 aircraft, which was
made 30 years ago in 1977.

The presidential press service said the Europe-made aircraft was
purchased at $45 million. It said $15 million were paid by Armenian
benefactors, who asked to remain anonymous.

The rest of the money was formalized as a credit that shall be paid
in the next 10 years. The Airbus-319 will be managed by Armenia’s
leading carrier Armavia.

The presidential press service said the aircraft was chosen because
of being in good technical shape and because it requires no additional
expenses to adapt tit o flying the country’s leadership.

The press service said also none of Armenia’s neighbors flies the
Russia-made Tu-134 which fails to comply with a number of international
requirements, particularly, with noise requirement. Besides they
consume much more fuel and pose danger in terms of pollution.
