FUNDS TO BE ALLOCATED TO ARMENIA’S EDUCATIONAL SPHERE TO INCREASE

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN. The funds to be raised as a result
of reforms to be implemented in Armenia’s tax sphere will be allocated
to the educational sphere. As Aristomene Varudakis, the Director of
the World Bank (WB) Yerevan Office, said at the November 30 press
conference, teachers’ salaries have considerably increased as a result
of reforms implemented in the educational sphere: in particular,
by 65% in 2005, by 16% in 2006, and by 19% in 2007. Nevertheless, in
his words, budget allocations need to the increased, and the credit
of assistance to Poverty Reduction, 18.5m USD, allocated by WB lately
will be also used for educational sphere’s development.
A. Varudakis said that the above mentioned sum will be used for
implementation of reforms in customs and tax administration spheres. In
particular, such systems will be introduced, which will enable people
to deal less with employees of the above mentioned sphere. Besides,
a special attention will be paid to illegal deforestations.
It was mentioned the since 1992 WB has allocated 1.1bn dollars to
Armenia for implementation of 49 programs.
