YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN. By not giving Aram Karapetian
a certificate on permanently residing in Armenia in the past ten
years, the RA Police fulfilled a political order, A. Karapetian
considers. A. Karapetian said at the November 29 press conference
that it was ordered by Armenian President Robert Kocharian and Prime
Minister Serge Sargsian, and the main motive of fulfilling such
orders is the atmosphere of fear formed in the country. According to
A. Karapetian, "there is no circumstance in the political sphere",
which hampers his registration as a candidate for presidency. He said
that he has been given a certificate on being a RA citizen, and the
denial to give him a certificate on his residence was not motivated.
A. Karapetian is going to challenge in the court the fact of not giving
him a certificate on residing in Armenia. If he fails and is not
registered as a candidate for presidency, the Nor Zhamanakner party
Chairman is not going to leave the country and is going to aim his
efforts at rise of a democratic wave. He affirmed that Serge Sargsian
will try to become President by forcible methods, and a strong wave
of protest is needed to fight election falsifications. According to
A. Karapetian, the Nor Zhamanakner party is not going to support any
candidate for presidency and calls his electorate for taking part
in the process of "changing the power in Armenia through a peaceful
revolution." A. Karapetian resufed to answer the question of whether
he expects assistance from outside, however, mentioning that the
question was apt.
The party will not unite with any other political force, but it ready
to fight together with the forces, which will prove that they are
real opposition and are ready to fight till the end. For the purpose
of making public the compromising facts known to him, A. Karapetian
is going to apply to some candidates for presidency with the request
of buying part of their TV air.
