The extraordinary conference of the Orinats Yerkir Party nominated the
leader of the party Arthur Baghdasaryan for the presidential election
on December 3. The 650 delegates of the conference passed this decision
unanimously and welcomed Arthur Baghdasaryan’s nomination before and
after the decision for several times with applause and exclamations
"victory" and "Arthur president". Arthur Baghdasaryan’s speech after
nomination was interrupted by them for several times.
The address was on the moral and psychological climate in the
country, economy, political sphere, public administration, social
state of people. Arthur Baghdasaryan said in this country the law is
a truncheon on people and privilege for people in power. The leader
of the Orinats Yerkir Party criticized protectionism, corruption and
illegal privatization of the public property and said there is one
important problem – to guarantee Constitutional order in the country.
"After all, the government must not control distribution of businesses
in the country, provide monopoly or privileged rights to selected
people, grant absolute power to some officials," Arthur Baghdasaryan
says. According to him, it is impossible to sustain competition
without battling corruption. "Dear fellow countrymen, Armenia is
changing today. People are changing, mores are changing.
Unfortunately, most changes bring about steady and consistent regress,"
says the leader of the Orinats Yerkir Party adding that the system of
values suffers. Arthur Baghdasaryan thinks the society needs a moral
transformation today. "First of all, this should worry the government,"
says the leader of the Orinats Yerkir Party. He cites the saying that
money is a good slave but a bad master. "Faith and power bought with
money, votes attained through pressure and barbed wire, truth covered
with lie and hypocrisy cannot last long but can deal blows which will
take a long time to recover," Arthur Baghdasaryan says.
According to him, the future of Armenia must be in the hands of a
government formed through a democratic way, only such a government is
able to solve national problems because a government formed through
violence and fraud, violation of the right to vote will be weak, unable
to solve any public and national issue. "We believe that Armenia can
be the country of future," says the leader of the Orinats Yerkir
Party. He says we should not fear future and we must fight for it
and first of all struggle for a free and fair election. According
to Arthur Baghdasaryan, the citizens are facing a choice: the past
which people still remember, the vague and wobbly present and a
future based on democratic values, national identity, human rights
and freedoms. "The rebirth of the nation and creation of a free and
democratic country is a common system of values which does not belong
to any political force. These are universal values which cannot be
divided into democrats and conservatives, Americans and Europeans. It
should be acknowledged that freedom and democracy, human rights and the
rule of law are not American, European or Russian but are universal
values," says the leader of the Orinats Yerkir Party. He said he is
going to fight for a country based on these values and will fight as
if everything depends on him only. The leader of the Orinats Yerkir
Party stated that he is running in the presidential election to win.
