The Union of Yezidis of Armenia and the Yezidi community will support
RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan at the forthcoming presidential
elections. The Charmin of the World Yezidi Union Aziz Tamoyan reminded
today that as early as three month ago the Union of Yezidis of Armenia
came forth with a similar statement. "I have been to a number of
communities, and it has become clear for me that the overwhelming
majority of Yezidis of Armenia trusts Serge Sargsyan and will vote for
him. We know his views, the kind attitude not only towards Yezidis,
but also toward other ethnic minorities of Armenia. He has always
supported us, and now we will support him," Aziz Tamoyan said.
The leader of Yezidis noted that he welcomes the nomination of other
candidates, and is personally familiar with all of them. "The ethnic
minorities of Armenia support the authorities in power, since they
see the work done by them. According to our calculation, about 60
thousand Yezidis live in Armenia and they have always been satisfied
with the work done, they see that their problems find solution. During
the parliamentary elections the position of Yezidis was not united,
but no we are united in our opinion," Aziz Tamoyan said. He added
that Armenia is a civilized country and it is simply surprising that
some politicians refuse from civilized ways of political struggle and
"get involved in throwing mud at each other."
Underlining that the Jews of Armenia have always been patriots,
Head of the Jewish community of Armenia Rima Varzhapetyan noted that
they will also support Serge Sargsyan. "The Jews of Armenia have
passed through the same difficulties any other Armenian citizen has
passed. We have seen the work done by today’s authorities, and we
wish to estimate it at its true worth. Returning to those terrible
times would be madness. Serge Sargsyan has a great contribution to
the development of Armenia and he is worth being the President of
Armenia," Rima Varzhapetyan added.
