Yerevan /Mediamax/. Leader of "New Times" (NT) party Aram Karapetian
stated that on January 21 of 2008 he will start his pre-election
campaign "irrespective of whether I will be registered as a candidate
for the position of the President or not".
Mediamax notes that the Visa and Passport Department of the Police
refused to grant Aram Karapetian a certificate, according to which he
mostly resided in Armenia in the course of the recent 10 years. Without
this certificate, he can not be registered as a candidate for the
position of the President.
Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today, Aram Karapetian stated
that "in the course of the pre-election campaign, I intend to use TV
broadcasting and other platforms for communicating with the people".
According to him, he will also present his forecasts concerning the
results of the presidential elections, which, according to him, "in
accordance with the scenario of the authorities, will be composed of
two rounds, at that the Ex-President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian
will occupy the fourth or the fifth place in the first round of
the elections".
Aram Karapetian strongly criticized the Armenian President Robert
Kocharian.
According to him, "the President openly demonstrates his illiteracy
and uses the TV broadcasting for the endless abuse addressed to
the opposition".
