KAPAN, DECEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The research conducted by the
assistance of the OSCE was introduced to society in Kapan, the
regional center of Syunik, on December 5. According to this research,
the degree of Armenian women’s being introduced in public and economic
life is unsatisfactory. This information was provided to Noyan Tapan
by the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
"We hope that this reaserch will contribute to the discussion of
gender equality in Armenia and will promote the role of women in the
political and economic life of Syunik and other regions of Armenia,"
Sergei Kapinos, the Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, mentioned.
According to the results of the research, there is no united movement
of women in Armenia, the important part of the economic and political
life is being controlled by men, who also make important decisions
instead of women.
In rural settlements women are often unaware of their rights and do
not have enough resources and ties for leading an active economic
and political life.
A number of suggestions directed at making the situation better,
the establishment of resource centers, in particular, as a means
for encouraging local women in political and business spheres, are
introduced in the report.
