PRESIDENT: `ELECTIONS DID NOT AFFECT BADLY ON ECONOMIC GROWTH PACE’

The elections of 2003 and 2007 did not affect negatively on the pace
of economic growth, President Robert Kocharyan told Golos Armenii
newspaper in an interview. The reason is obvious: the results of the
elections may be predicted. `The business community understands that
the economic policy of the country will be continued and that they may
keep on adding their production scale,’ the president mentioned.

He also said that the parliamentary majority forms the government and
that all the economic issues are in his view. `The combat is not for
power but for the chair of the president. If the parliamentary
majority wins, we will have a strong president who will have able to
take decisions and be responsible for them. In case another candidate
wins, we will have a president in the status of English queen,’
Kocharyan has said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
