STRUCTURAL CHANGES MADE IN PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 5, NOYAN TAPAN. The reforms envisaged by the new RA
Law on Prosecutor’s Office are at the final stage, NT correspondent
was informed by the spokeswoman for the RA prosecutor general Sona
Truzian. By order of the prosecutor general of the RA, on November
30 three departments and three units of the prosecutor’s office were
liquidated and new subdivisions were set up instead.
According to the same source, the following departments and units were
liquidated: the department for defence of prosecution on criminal
cases in courts, the department on control over the legality of
investigation, the investigation department, the unit for the fight
against corruption, the investigation department’s unit for the fight
against human trafficking and their illegal migration, and the unit
on the fight against drug trafficking.
The following subdivisions were set up instead:
– the department on crimes against humans, the former prosecutor of
Armavir marz Vahram Shahinian was appointed the head of the department,
– the department on corruption and organized crimes, the former head
of the department on defence of prosecution in courts Armen Ashrafian
was appointed the head of the department,
– the department on crimes of general character, Sargis Mnatsakanian
was appointed the head of the department.
According to the same source, prior to that, the following departments
and units were set up: the department on protection of state interests,
the department for control over the legality of punishment and other
measures of restraint, the organizational and supervisory department,
the department of statistics and analysis, the personnel unit, the unit
for reception of citizens, the application discussion and personnel
duty unit, the unit of Eurointegration, the unit of international legal
acts, and the unit on protection of state interests in foreign courts.
It was also reported that Hakob Gharakhanian was appointed the
prosecutor of Armavir marz (he was relieved of his post as investigator
of especially important cases under the RA prosecutor general), and
Sisak Khachatrian was appointed the prosecutor of Yerevan’s Avan and
Nor Nork communities.
