ACCORDING TO LEVON TER-PETROSIAN, ARMENIAN INDUSTRY WAS RUINED NOT
UNDER HIM BUT MUCH EARLIER
YEREVAN, DECEMBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. "The statement of Robert Kocharian
that the former authorities ruined the previously prospering industry
of Armenia is both the reality and a myth," the first Armenian
president Levon Ter-Petrosian said at the December 8 rally. In his
words, this statement is true in that this industry does not exist
today, just like the Stepanakert silk factory headed by R. Kocharian
stopped functioning long ago. "And it is a myth because the Soviet
Union did not have an industry in line with modern requirements and
technological achievements," L. Ter-Petrosian said. As regards
industry, according to him, in this sense the USSR was inferior even to
Eastern European communist countries. The first Armenian president said
that the main cause of the collapse of the Soviet Union was its
economic system on a weak basis. In the opinion of L. Ter-Petrosian, it
was natural and logical that the economies of the USSR member republics
were ruined after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He said that
Armenia’s industry fell into a decline as early as in the Soviet time.
