11 TUBERCULOSIS DISPENSARIES-CENTERS TO BE REORGANIZED INTO POLYCLINICS AND IN-PATIENT MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS IN ARMENIA BY 2008

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. All the 11 tuberculosis
dispensaries-centers currently operating in Armneia will be reorganized
into polyclinics and in-patient medical institutions by 2008. The head
of the central office of the national program on the fight against
tuberculosis Tatev Kostanian told NT correspondent that the purpose
of this reorganization is to make treatment more accessible and to
contribute to prevention ad early diagnosis of tuberculosis.
According to her, medical examinations and dianoses will be made in
polyclinics, while treatment will be given at medical institutions.
Treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis lasts about 6 months. During
the first 2-3 months, patients receive treatment at a medical
institution. When the infection stage is over, patients may go to
polyclinics to receive the necessary medicines free of charge.
T. Kostanian said that the reorganization of tuberculosis dispensaries
started in January 2006 under the respective decision of the Armenian
government. The process has been completed in marzes: 10 regional
medical institutions have been reorganized.
