PRIME MINISTER SUGGESTS ESTABLISHING NATIONAL LABORATORIES

One of the key areas of primary significance for Armenia, the science
and research, does not comply with the requirements of modern market
in the country, Serzh Sargsyan, Armenian prime minister, to Yanes
Potochnik, EU commissioner on science and research, during a meeting
yesterday. The prime minister underscored establishing direct links
with European Commission commissioners parallel with the enlarged
cooperation with the European Union.
The prime minister introduced with the reforms implemented in Armenia
in organizing science. He attached significance to the support of
the European Commission through consultations, seminars and exchange
of scientific experience. The prime minister underscored current EU
programs in science and research that Armenia participates in paying
special importance to framework programs and "Mary Curry."
Sargsyan also mentioned that the funds sometimes are not equally
distributed due to high competition and suggested setting a procedure
or quota for countries enrolled in the European neighborhood policy.
Sargsyan also suggested establishing national laboratories on the
base of the Armenian research institutes on co-financing.
The prime minister had several other top meetings with the European
leadership. The delegation spearheaded by him will leave for Strasbourg
today to continue top level meetings.
