The main strategic issue of education is to raise the interest of
students in natural sciences and to ensure that quality cadres are
produced. Alexander Pokrovski, the founder of UNESCO Moscow Bureau
told a seminar organized at Yerevan State University (YSU) today
that this is a common problem both for developed and non-developed
countries. Pokrovski introduced to a project that has been developed
in the course of 9 years and is implemented in 95 countries. The
modern teaching system is based on theory and demonstration of
experiments. The new methodology suggests shifting from demonstration
to experience so that the students may conduct experiments on
their own.

YSU deputy rector Alexander Grigoryan said that the seminar is
organized in the university because pre-university education is one
of the priority strategic issues of the establishment. The event is
organized by UNESCO Moscow Bureau and YSU International Cooperation
Department.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
