YEREVAN, Dec 13 (Reuters) – A bomb exploded on Thursday outside the
offices of an Armenian opposition newspaper that is strongly critical
of President Robert Kocharyan’s administration.

No-one was injured in the blast, which blew out windows and damaged
the doors at the Yerevan offices of the Chorrord Ishkhanutyun (The
Fourth Estate) newspaper early on Thursday, police said.

"We think this is linked to our publications since we give responses
to all unjust things," editor Shogher Matevosyan told Reuters.

Kocharyan has supported his Prime Minister Serzh Sarksyan in
the February 19 presidential election but former president Levon
Ter-Petrosyan is trying to win back power, raising tensions in the
small Caucasus state.

The paper had written articles supporting Ter-Petrosyan. (Reporting

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
