VICE SPEAKER OF ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT: ARMENIA WILL WITHDRAW FROM CFE ONLY IF ONE OF ITS NEIGHBORS REVISES ITS STAND ON TREATY
2007-12-13 15:12:00
ArmInfo. Armenia will withdraw from the Treaty of Conventional Armed
Forces in Europe (CFE) only if one of its CFE-member neighbors revises
its stand on the Treaty. The country has no reason to withdraw from
it so far, Vahan Hovhannissyan, a member of ARFD party Bureau, a
candidate for president from ARFD said at a press conference at the
National Press Club, Thursday.
As regards Russia’s decision to suspend its CFE membership,
V. Hovhannissyan said Russia is correcting the mistakes of early
90s. No measures were taken then in response to the rapid extension
of NATO to the East. Only now the Kremlin started taking some steps
in this direction. ‘Otherwise, it is the internal affairs of Russia, I
think. Nothing terrible happens’, the parliamentary vice speaker said.
