VAZGEN MANUKIAN STATED TODAY THAT ONLY 10-15% OF THE POPULATION WANT TO "TAKE REVENGE" OF THE PRESENT AUTHORITIES AND ARE READY TO OVERTHROW THEM BY ALL MEANS

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Candidate for the position of the President,
Chairman of National-Democratic Union (NDU) Vazgen Manukian stated
today that at present only 10-15% of the population want to "take
revenge" of the present authorities and are ready to overthrow them
by all means.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today,
Vazgen Manukian stated that there is certain discontent in the society,
caused by two factors: the feeling of being unprotected and the fear
of future, however, those factors are not enough to make a revolution.

Leader of NDU noted that today, just as during the presidential
elections of 1996, the team of the Ex-President Levon Ter-Petrosian
uses the same "poison", however, it may cause a reverse reaction and
benefit the candidate from the ruling party.

According to Manukian, it is important "not to take the path of hatred
and aggression, but try to let the society believe that you can really
improve the life of the people and work in a single team".

Talking about the possible outcome of the elections, Vazgen
Manukian stated that as for today, Armenian Prime Minister has great
administrative resource for the victory in the presidential elections,
however the international practice shows that while electing the new
President, the opposition has much higher chances, than in the period
of conclusion of the first term of the President. At that, Manukian
noted that he does not see possibility for Levon Ter-Petrosian’s
victory.
