ARMENOLOGICAL CENTER IN CAIRO UNIVERSITY

On December 13, in Cairo University Philological Faculty took place
the opening ceremony of the Armenological Research Center.
Unlike many Armenological Centers of world different universities,
this center in Cairo was founded by the government resolution.
The center will start from January 2008. Parallel with Armenian
Language study the center will carry out scientific programs.
In the framework of it, joint discussions and symposiums will refer
also to political sciences, history, linguistics, philosophy, art,
literature, etc.
Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Professor Nikolay
Hovhannisian delivered a special speech under the heading
"Armenian-Arabic historical-cultural relations". Pr. Hovhannisian
touched upon the relations of the two peoples in different periods of
history and their developments, also the role of the Armenian people
in Arabic world’s spheres of economy, politics, education and culture,
and the Arabic people’s careful and merciful attitude towards Armenian
migrants escaped from the genocide.
Pr. Hovhannisian was awarded a medal of Cairo University by the
teaching staff of the University.
The above-mentioned event was the first step of the cooperation
between the Armenian Embassy and the Armenological Research Center.
