An auditorium after Tigran Naghdalyan was opened today at the Yerevan
State University, Department of Journalism upon the initiative of the
YSU Department of Journalism and the famous journalist’s friends. `At
some point you have to defend your view and stay loyal to it,’ the
brightest example of this principle was the activity of Tigran
Naghdalyan, journalist and President of the Council of Public
Television and Radio Company of Armenia, for which he sacrificed the
dearest ` his life. The auditorium opened at the Yerevan State
University will immortalize Tigran Naghdalyan’s memory. The opening
ceremony was attended by his family, friends, politicians and
lecturers. Rector of the Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan
considers that the auditorium will serve its purpose. It will become a
site of memory where future journalists will study tomorrow.

Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly Vahan Hovhannisyan noted that
unfortunately in our society it’s not common to consider heroic the
work of a responsible and devoted reporter. What happened to Tigran was
the proof of the fact that there is still no concept of free speech and
free mind in our society.

`A man who was not afraid to present his point of view literally,
professionally and with humor, and what is the most important, without
hatred,’ said Karine Naghdalyan, the journalist’s sister.

Let us remind that the former President of the Council of Public
Television and Radio Company of Armenia Tigran Naghdalyan was killed on
December 28, 2002 at 8, Zakhyan Street, at the entrance of his parents’
house. The crime has been disclosed, the criminals have been punished.
However, the talented journalist is not with us, and we can only
remember one of his most favorite sayings: `A little, patience, and
everything will be all right.’

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
