Vardan Oskanyan: If we do not complete discussed document, we will
start everything from zero

[ 26 Dec 2007 15:51 ]

`There is progress on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict
recently,’ Vardan Oskanyan Armenian Foreign Minister said an
interview to Shant television, APA reports

He stated that document which is on negotiations table was appeared
on the joint initiative of parties.
`Several issues were coordinated recently but several issues were not
coordinated .OSCE Minsk Group wanted to achieve an agreement between
the parties on this issue. We wish to reach final stage on this
document, because serous issues were carried out by now. We should
achieve a logical agreement in order not to start everything from
after presidential elections in the two countries,’ he said.
Oskanyan stated that after co-chairs’ next visit to region it will be
clear whether negotiations will be carried out or not. He considers
necessity of negotiations on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh
conflict after presidential elections in Armenia.
`One of the reasons that makes co-chairs hurry is that personae may
change in the result of elections. The new president will have a
right not to accept the document and the co-chairman strive to create
obstacles for new persons to decline it. Another reason is that
co-chairs may change too and there are some signs of it. Therefore
negotiations should be continued. I am sure that good foundation was
established for dialogue and will be established in the future. From
the diplomatic point of view, our positions are quite strong and it
is necessary to continue the settlement process on this basis. If we
leave what has been achieved and try to start from the beginning, we
will give new opportunities to Azerbaijan", he said.
He stated that it is early to speak about outcomes of settlement of
conflict.
`It will be a beginning of a great process, if document is
coordinated between parties. Ttwo and a half -page document covers
core principles of settlement of conflict. I think that, peace
agreement should cover all details,’ he said./APA/
