SARKISIAN IS GRATEFUL TO SOCIOLOGY
[07:39 pm] 26 December, 2007

Today Armenia’s Prime Minister and presidential
candidate Serzh Sarkissian refuted the statements of
the All-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) according to
which he started giving out bribes from the reserve
funds of the Central Bank of Armenia.

`The rumors do not correspond to reality. All those
who are somewhat familiar with what the reserves of
the Central Bank mean, will say that it is simply
impossible. I’m sure that by February 19 we shall hear
things that are impossible to see in nightmares. But
what can we do? Perhaps, that is HHSh’s opinion about
the state. There is no use making comments,’ the Prime
Minister said.

Serzh Sarkissian also turned to the results of the
survey conducted by the Gallup according to which
Serzh Sarkissian’s rating is much higher than that of
the other eight candidates.

The Prime Minister attaches more importance to the
fact that public opinion polls reveal the moods of the
society and call attention to the issues of public
importance. Public opinion surveys are extremely
useful in this regard, Serzh Sarkissian says. `Armenia
has been using the experience of polls for a long time
already. I’m grateful to all those organizations,
which pay, conduct and provide us with these valuable
materials.’

As for ARF Dashnaktsutiun member and presidential
nominee Vahan Hovhannissian’s statement that he
doesn’t trust `Gallup’ polls, Sarkissian said, `I am
convinced that he does not believe polling results
otherwise he would surrender or at least ease his
rough stance. One may believe all tales about Serzh
Sarkissian and ignore sociology. But people’s distrust
will hardly affect sociology. The point is that
foreigners get an impression about our country from
political figures’ statements.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
