THE COMMEMORATION DAY OF ST. SARGIS TO BE MARKED ON FEBRUARY 3RD

The Commemoration Day of St. Sargis has been declared the Day of
Blessing the Young, Press Service of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese
informed Radiolur. Tnis year it will be celebrated on February 3.
Military leader St. Sargis is one of the most beloved saints. With
his son Martiros and 14 brave soldiers he died for the sake of
Christian faith.
The Commemoration Day of St. Sargis is celebrated in Armenia
not only through religious rituals and prayer, but also folk
traditions. St. Sargis is known as the patron of young people and
love. Miracles occur with his mediation. St. Sargis realizes the
dream of love.
According to the tradition, on the eve of St. Sargis Day, the unmarried
should fast all day, then eat salt bread – a round-shaped small and
very salty bread.
On St. Sargis Day sweethearts present sweets and cards to each other.
On February 3 a Holy Liturgy will be served in all Churches carrying
the name of St. Sargis, which will be followed by the ceremony of
blessing the young.
