Yerevan /Mediamax/. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) cannot assist
the recovery of the political system of the country and its soon
development, Leader of oppositional "Union of Constitutional Right"
(UCR) party Hrant Khachatrian stated in Yerevan today.

Mediamax reports that Hrant Khachatrian stated that "the present
authorities of Armenia deepened the negative sides, inherited from the
former authorities, and the fact led to the regress of the political
system of the country and consolidated the clan unipolarity in the
political arena".

Leader of UCR stated the desirability of defeat of the candidate
from the ruling party in the very first round of the presidential
elections. Hrant Khachatrian confirmed that the UCR supports the
candidature of the Leader of the National-Democratic Union Vazgen
Manukian, tying with him "hopes for accelerated and healthy development
of the political system of Armenia".

At the same time, Hrant Khachatrian expressed readiness for cooperation
with other "anti-clan and anti-corruption" political forces as well.

According to him, the Ex-President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian,
who runs for the position of the President, is entering the elections
with a new team and has the potential for uniting the efforts of the
opposition. At the same time, Khachatrian noted, to reach the given
aim, the team of the first President of Armenia should have refrained
from attacks on other oppositional candidates, in particular, on
Vazgen Manukian.
