CUSTOMS REVENUES GROW BY 350% IN ARMENIA COMPARED WITH 2000

YEREVAN, JANUARY 10, NOYAN TAPAN. In 2007, the RA State Customs
Committee (SCC) ensured revenues that exceed by 350% the collection
in 2000. Last year the customs revenues exceeded the programmed index
by 22 billion drams (about 72 million USD) and made about 210 billion
drams, NT correspondent was informed by the SCC press service.

It was indicated that a number of steps aimed at improving the customs
administration were taken, and the territorial customs bodies were
re-equipped with modern technical equipment. Nearly 4 bln drams was
invested in 2007 for technical re-equipment of the customs system.

The 15th anniversary of the customs service is marked in January. In
this connection the chairman of the State Customs Committee Armen
Avetisian presented prizes to 28 employees of the customs service. He
pointed out the task of reducing customs official – economic entity
relations to a minimum as one of the most important problems of the
SCC because it will allow to reduce corruption in the customs system.
