Yerevan pleased with new ferry route to Russia

Friday, January 11

The Armenian minister of transport and communication described the
inauguration of the railcar-carrying ferry route between the ports of
Poti in Georgia and Kavkaz in Russia as the most significant event
for Armenia in 2007, according to the news agency Regnum.

The route was devised as a way of restoring the Russia-Armenia
transport corridor, bypassing conflict regions. Before the
Kavkaz-Poti route, Armenian cargo had to go to Russia via the
Ukrainian port of Ilichevsk. The new ferry route is expected to halve
transportation time and reduce transportation costs by 20 percent.
