Yuri Merzlyakov: "Principles of Nagorno Gabaragh conflict settlement
may become a precedent for other conflicts in the world"

"We consider that the principle of the settlement of Nagorno
Garabagh conflict is a midpoint between the principles of national
determination and the territorial integrity of the country", Russian
co-chairman of the OSCE Minsk Group Yuri Merzlyakov told a press
conference held in Baku by results of the visit of the co-chairmen to
the region.
He noted that the approach of the co-chairmen to the basic principles
relies on three of ten principles, fixed in the Helsinki final act of
the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, which has
been transformed into the OSCE-the principle of territorial
integrity; equality of peoples and principle of self-determination;
non-appliance of force or threat of force.
At the same time, he refused to comment on how the co-chairmen would
be able to combine these principles.
"We are not able to call a precedent for such settlement of the
conflict in the world. But I think, the resolution of the Garabagh
conflict may become a precedent for other conflicts", he said.
