The Armenian delegation tried to equate the Kosovo conflict to Nagorno
Garabagh during the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of
the Council of Europe.
The main point of Armenians’ speech was that in case Kosovo separates
from Serbia, it may become a precedent for Nagorno Garabagh.
The response to the representative of the Armenian delegation became
the speech of the member of the Azerbaijan delegation in PACE Ganira
Pashayeva, who noted that Azerbaijan supports efforts of international
organizations for the resolution of the Kosovo conflict.
"Unfortunately, some countries and powers try to use the Kosovo
conflict for their purposes. The representatives of Armenia in their
speeches in PACE try to mislead other deputies of the Assembly and
draw incorrect parallels. It is a great regret that the deputies from
Armenia announce that the model of the Kosovo conflict settlement may
become a precedent for unsettled conflicts within the CIS", she noted.
She said such position affects the peaceful talks between Azerbaijan
and Armenia.
G.Pashayeva noted that there is something in common between the Kosovo
problem and the conflicts on the territories of the CIS states from
the first glance.
"But if we take in the roots, history and causes of these conflicts, we
can see that these conflicts are quite different. The representatives
of the Council of Europe, PACE, European Union, UNO as well as the
co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk group, mediating the Nagorno-Garabagh
conflict settlement, have repeatedly stated that.
The new president of the Parliamentary Assembly Mr De-Puch also
came out with this position. At the same time he announced that the
settlement of the Kosovo problem can not be a precedent for other
conflicts in Europe", she said.
At the same time, the Azerbaijani Parliamentarian noted that the
member of the Armenian delegation Mr. Ovanesyan has sent an appeal
to the Prime Minister of Slovakia which states that the separation
of Czechia and Slovakia can be successgul for the resolution of the
Nagorno-Garabagh conflict.
"I do not believe that Mr. Ovanisyan is not informed about the history
and causes of this conflict and is nor aware of the international
law. Nagorno-Garabagh conflict started with occupation of 20% of
Azerbaijani lands by Armenia. Moreover, Armenia keeps 7 regions of
Azerbaijan under occupation. Armenia held ethnic cleansing in the
occupied lands of Azerbaijan and there are no Azerbaijanis there.
I can also point out numerous facts but I think that the said ones
evidence that the Kosovo and Nagorno Garabagh conflicts differ
greatly", she said.
Pashayev asked the leadership of the Council of Europe and PACE to
prevent some countries from using the discussion of the Kosovo problem
for their political purposes.
