Yerevan /Mediamax/. President of the Russian "Politika" ("Politics")
Fund Vyacheslav Nikonov believes that the candidature of the Prime
Minister of Armenia Serzh Sarkisian "suits Moscow and support for it
will be secured at the highest level".

Mediamax reports that Vyacheslav Nikonov writes about this in "Armenia
elects" article, which was published in "Izvestiya" newspaper today.

"The interests of the Russian Federation in connection with these
elections are that Armenia remains a stable, dynamically developing
state with responsible government, oriented to constructive relations
with our country. From this strategic point of view, the candidature of
Serzh Sarkisian suits Moscow, and support for it will be secured at the
highest level. It would be very correct to make steps, demonstrating
our readiness to render Armenia real help, first of all economic. And
it would be good to not overdo in the demonstration of our support",
the political scientist stated.

Vyacheslav Nikonov noted that a considerable space in the election
campaign in Armenia is occupied by the issues of relations with Russia
and the West.

"It is difficult to notice anti-Russian moods in Armenia, they see both
hope and support in our country. But is it also difficult to notice
anti-western moods, especially taking into account the existence of
exclusively powerful Armenian Diasporas in many key countries. The
Prime Minister has a reputation of a pro-Russian politician, and it is
quite deserved. Sarkisian knows Putin quite well and for quite a long
time, back from the work in CIS force structures, at his presence, the
bilateral economic relations extended – the volume of trade turnover
in a year grew for 63%. But he does not at all close the doors for
cooperation with the West, which in fact rules out the possibility
of realization a large-scale external campaign against Sarkisian,
as it took place during many elections in the post-Soviet territory",
the President of "Politika" Fund noted.
