Raf Ovanesyan, head of the Armenian delegation in PACE, raised the
issue of the so-called destruction of Armenian memorials in Nakhchivan
during the discussion of the speech of the new chairman of the CE
Ministers’ Committee at the PACE session.
The response of the Azerbaijani side was adequate.
Member of the Azerbaijani delegation in PACE Ganira Pashayeva, who
spoke after the Armenian MP, accused him of the attempt to mislead
the European Parliamentarians.
"As is known from the history, Christianity was a religion of
Azerbaijan before Islam. Caucasian Albania is one of the first
Christian states. Ancient Christian memorials are Albanian, but
not Armenian ones, as the representatives of Armenia state. It is
illogical to state that Azerbaijanis destroy these memorials, which
would mean that Azerbaijanis destroy their own history", she said.
