Levon Ter-Petrosian stated that if he is elected, Armenia will choose a
`salvation way’, and the victory of Serzh Sarkisian will lead to
`inevitable ruin’
January 28, 2008
Yerevan /Mediamax/. Ex-President of Armenia, presidential candidate
Levon Ter-Petrosian harshly criticized another presidential candidate,
Prime Minister Serzh Sarkisian and stated that on February 19, the
citizens will have to choose `between two paths for the development of
the country, one of which leads to inevitable ruin, the other ` to
salvation’.
Mediamax reports that this is stated in the address of Levon
Ter-Petrosian to the electors, which was spread by his press service
today.
`In case Serzh Sarkisian is elected, no positive changes will take
place in our country, on the contrary, the vicious phenomena, which
were present during the rule of Robert Kocharian, will deepen’, former
President stated. In particular, Ter-Petrosian argues that if Serzh
Sarkisian is elected Armenian President:
`- pitiless exploitation of the population and accumulation of national
values in the hands of a few people will continue;
– polarization of the society will aggravate: the rich will become
richer, the poor – poorer;
– monopolization of economy will start once and for all endangering the
existence of small and medium business;
– illegal actions and tyranny of law-enforcement bodies, tax and custom
services will not stop;
– the continuing process of emigration will grow into a demographic
catastrophe;
– the revelation of unprecedented felonies will be suppressed: the
terrorist act of October 27 of 1999, other assassinations, intrigues,
related to the import of gas and petrol;
– economic and political blockade of Armenia will not be overcome, the
threat of resumption of war in Nagorno-Karabakh will increase’.
In case of being elected, Levon Ter-Petrosian promises to realize the
following: `reestablishment of constitutional order, implementation of
democratic liberties in life, establishment of law, establishment of
equal conditions for managing subjects, securing free competition,
carrying out constructive foreign policy, etc.’.
Besides, the presidential candidate promises to take up the following
steps, aiming at `abrupt improvement’ of the social-economic state of
the citizens:
`- increase the average pension volumes and average salary for 3-4
times in the course of the nearest 5 years;
– speed up the process of compensation of the soviet deposits by means
of issuing state bonds;
– considerably increase one-time benefits to women in childbirth;
– amnesty for people, having evaded Army service, etc’.
