ArmInfo. Transfer to the contractual system of service in the Armenian
Armed Forces is hardly possible in the near future, RA Defense Minister
Mikael Harutyunyan said upon completion of the ceremony of laying of
wreath in the Yerablur Memorial complex, timed to the 16th anniversary
of creation of the Armenian national Army.

M. Harutyunyan also said that a strong economic system, as well as
calmness and peace in the region are necessary for transfer to the
contractual service. "Today, the Armenian Army is battle-worthy, it is
reckoned with and respected. However, Armenia is a small country,
located in a region where there are many complex unresolved problems,
the main of which is assurance of security of the borders, and this
problem is solved by the Army. I think that it is yet early to talk
about transfer to the contractual system of service", the minister
said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
