Presidential Elections

The names of 2 million 312 thousand 945 voters have been included in
the newly elaborated electoral lists for the upcoming presidential
elections in Armenia.

Colonel Alvina Zakarian, head of the Passport and Visa Department,
said this at yesterday’s press conference, reporting the data as of
January 24.

According to her, the preliminary lists of the voters had been
transferred to RA Central Electoral Committee, which transferred them
to the regional electoral committees and places them on the sites.

Zakarian said that the lists had been also transferred to the "HayPost"
for printing of the individual reminders and booklets for the voters’
active participation in the elections. It’s worth mentioning that
the same practice was applied during the parliamentary elections,
as well. Zakarian emphasized that the current voters’ lists greatly
differ from those used in the last parliamentary elections, when the
number of voters amounted to 2 million 285 thousand 830. She said
that they had excluded the names of 1 thousand 981 died citizens, and
included the names of 4000 RA citizens above 18 who had just received
their passports and have the right to participate in the elections.

As a result, the number of voters in the upcoming presidential
elections increased by about 27 thousand.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
