HEAD OF ‘SOCIOMETER’ CENTER: OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF ARMENIAN REGIONS’ RESIDENTS INTEND TO VOTE FOR RA PM SERZH SARGSYAN

ArmInfo. Overwhelming majority of the Armenian regions’ residents
intend to vote for RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan at the forthcoming
presidential election, Head of the "Sociometer" Center, sociologist
Aharon Adibekyan said.
During today’s press-conference in "Hayatsk" club, A. Adibekyan said
that the employees of his Center carried out an express-gallup poll
in all the regions of the republic last week-end over 48 hours. Total
of 2 240 respondents were questioned: 20% of them said that they are
not interested in the forthcoming election, 5% said that they do not
intend to participate in voting. The votes of 75% of the gallup poll,
having an intention to go to the polls, divided in the following way:
67% intend to vote for Serzh Sargsyan, 9% – for the "Orinats Yerkir"
party leader Artur Baghdasaryan, 6% – for the first President Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, 3% – for the candidate from ARF Dashnaktsutyun party
Vahan Hovhannisyan, 2% – for the "National Unity" party leader
Aratshes Geghamyan, 1,5% for the National-Democratic Union leader
Vazgen Manukyan. None of the respondents voted for Arman Melikyan,
Tigran Karapetyan and Aram Harutyunyan. A. Adibekyan also said that
the gallup poll was carried out by order of S. Sargsyan’s campaign
headquarters and one of the candidates more (the sociologist refused
to call his name).
A. Adibekyan said that participants in the gallup poll were also
questioned whether they know the presidential contenders. According
to the results, 97% of respondents know about Serzh Sargsyan running
for president, 80% about L. Ter-Petrosyan, 44,2% – about V. Manukyan,
40,7% – about V. Hovhannisyan, 55% – about A. Geghamyan, 56% –
about A. Baghdasaryan, 51% – about the rest of the candidates. 19,7%
are familiar with the programme of S. Sargsyan, 7,7% – with that
of L. Ter-Petrosyan, 6,9% – that of A. Baghdasaryan, 5,1% – that of
A. Geghamyan, 2,4% – that of V. Manukyan, 2,4% – with other candidates’
programmes, the sociologist said.
As for probability of the second round, A. Adibekyan calls it
extremely low.
He also said that the Center he heads intends to carry out a similar
express-gallup poll in Yerevan, and over the republic in a week more.
