Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 February / Òrend corr G. Jabiyev / The official
Havana supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the temporary
representative of Cuba in Azerbaijan Marcelo Caballero Torres said
at the meeting with Ali Ahmadov, the Deputy Chair and the Executive
Secretary of the governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP).

The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began
in 1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. The
Armenian Armed Forces occupied 20% of Azerbaijan including the
Nagorno-Karabakh region and its seven surrounding districts. In
1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which
time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk
Group ( Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding peaceful
negotiations.

According to Torres, the Cuban Government supports settling the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the territorial
integrity of Azerbaijan. " Cuba is interested in enhancement of
economic relationships with Azerbaijan," he said.

NAP chaired by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has been the
governing party since 1993.
