YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, NOYAN TAPAN. A negative migration saldo, which
made 2.9 thousand people, was recorded in Armenia in 2007. It should
be mentioned that a positive saldo was recorded in 2006 making 21.8
thousand people. This information was provided to a Noyan Tapan
correspondent by Vahan Bakhshetian, the Deputy Head of the Migration
Program Department of the Migration Agency under the RA Ministry of
Territorial Administration.

According to him, analyses show that migration is of seasonal character
in connection with New Year celebrations and departures with regard
to jobs abroad. Thus, a negative migration saldo is usually recorded
in January – May, a positive one in June – July, a negative one in
August – September, and a positive saldo in October – December.

Vahan Bakhshetian also stated that the volumes of passenger flows
are increasing year after year. The general volume of passenger flows
last year made 2 million 643 thousand and 900 people, which is more
by 35.9% in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
