Gross Agricultural Output Of Armenia Grows By 9.6% In 2007

GROSS AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT OF ARMENIA GROWS BY 9.6% IN 2007

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 11, NOYAN TAPAN. The gross agricultural output of
Armenia made 633.9 bln drams (about 2 bln USD) in 2007, exceeding the
2006 index by 9.6%. According to the RA National Statistical Service,
the gross output of plant cultivation made 429 bln 876 mln drams in
2007, exceeding by 12.3% the index of 2006, while the gross output
of cattle-breeding made 204 bln 1.8 mln drams, growing by 4.3%.

The growth in the gross output of plant cultivation was mainly
conditioned by an increase in production of grain and groats, gourds
and melons, fodder and truck crops, grapes and potato. At the same
time, output of fruit and berries declined by 9% or 25.8 thousand
tons. Fruit and berry production made 286 thousand tons in 2006.

In 2007 poultry and meat production grew by 4.4% or 5.1 thousand
tons as compared with 2006 (117.1 thousand tons in 2006), milk
production grew by 3.5% or 22 thousand tons (620 thousand tons in
2006). Production of eggs increased by 13.3% – against 9.5% in the
previous year. Egg production made 463.7 mln in 2006.

Fishing amounted to 2 bln 119.3 mln drams in 2007, exceeding the 2006
index by 18.7%.
