ARMENIAN OPPOSITION PARTY BACKS EX-PRESIDENT IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Yerevan, 12 February: The Heritage party has passed a decision to back
former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s candidacy in the 19 February
presidential election.

The majority of the Heritage board members voted in favour of the
decision at a meeting held on 11 February, the party’s press secretary,
Hovsep Khurshudyan, said in Yerevan today.

The Heritage party received 6 per cent of the votes in the
parliamentary election in May 2007 and has seven seats in the National
Assembly [parliament].
