OUT OF 200 CHILDREN SUBJECT TO ADOPTION, 115 ADOPTED IN ARMENIA IN 2007

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13, NOYAN TAPAN. 325 foster candidates, including
155 forigners, were registered at the RA ministry of labor and social
issues in 2007. NT correspondent was informed by Lena Hayrapetian,
head of the unit for children’s problems of the ministry’s department
for problems of women, children and family that 200 children subject
to adoption were registered in the same period. 115 children were
adopted, including 60 ones by foreigners.

According to L. Hayrapetian, children under the age of two are mainly
adopted. She underlined that foreign citizens registered as foster
candidates are mostly Armenians by nationality.

L. Hayrapetian said that 888 children currently live in 8 state
orphanages of Armenia, including 370 children in special orphanages
(for disabled children). About 80 children returned to their families
in 2007.
