Yerevan /Mediamax/. Yerevan Press Club (YPC) presented today the
interim report of the monitoring of pre-election campaign coverage
by broadcast media of Armenia in the period between January 31 and
February 9.
Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference in Yerevan,
President of YPC Boris Navasardian stated that in this period the
volume of editorial coverage of the election campaign grew. This
happened at the expense of coverage of the Armenian presidential
candidates, who enjoy greatest interest of the media – Ex-President of
Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian, Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sarkisian,
Leader of "Orinats Yerkir" party Artur Baghdasarian, Candidate from
the People’s Party Tigran Karapetian, member of "Dashnaktsutiun"
party Bureau Vahan Hovhannissian, Leader of "National Unification"
party Artashes Geghamian and candidate from the National-Democratic
Union Vazgen Manukian.
The YPC President noted that "in accordance with the tradition", Tigran
Karapetian gained basic coverage on "ALM" TV-Channel, belonging to him.
Armenian Ex-President enjoyed during the accounting period the most
attention of 8 researched broadcast media /37.016 seconds/, then
comes the Prime Minister of Armenia Serzh Sarkisian /32.786 seconds/.
At that the YPC President stated that Levon Ter-Petrosian remains
the doubtless leader as to the number of connotation-illustrated
mentions /143 negative and 3 positive/. Also frequent are the
connotation-illustrated mentions of Serzh Sarkisian /83 positive and
24 negative/.
Most polarized the coverage of the two candidates was on "Kentron"
TV-Channel, and the Public TV of Armenia demonstrated balanced
coverage, established by the law, only concerning the broadcasting time
distribution, but not the manner of coverage of the two candidates,
Boris Navasardian stated.
