This year 2.7 times more funds have been allocated for setting up
nursery schools. "We have opened 8 state nursery schools in villages
this year. The government is ready to open nursery schools in the
capital and villages if there are suitable premises," said the minister
of education and science Vladik Khachatryan in an interview with the
Azat Artsakh.
The minister says there is a schedule for opening nursery
schools. Special focus will be on Stepanakert where over one third
of the people of the country live. "For over 2 years 2 nursery
schools will be set up in the capital for 300 children each. They
will be located at the old premises of School N 6 and School N 11,
since new buildings are being built for these schools. This year the
Armenian Evangelical Union will open a new nursery school admitting
140 children," the minister said.
In the Soviet years there were about 100 nursery schools in Karabakh
but during the war most of them were destroyed. In the post-war years
a number of private and benevolent nursery schools were set up, mostly
by the Armenian Relief Society and the Armenian Evangelical Union.
