February 19, 2008
Yerevan /Mediamax/. Proxies of the presidential candidate Levon
Ter-Petrosian – ex-MP Gurgen Yeghiazarian and one of the leaders
of the Armenian National Movement (ANM) Yerjanik Abgarian stated in
Yerevan today that they were beaten by unknown young people near the
polling station 28/06 in Abovian town.
Mediamax reports that Yerjanik Abgarian informed that the incident
took place, when they arrived this morning in the polling station
"to fix the violations and falsifications, taking place there".
"When we left the polling station, a group of 7-8 people approached
us and started to ask us about the aim of our visit. When we presented
ourselves, the head of the given band, named Edo, called somewhere, and
then they attacked us and started beating violently", Abgarian stated.
Gurgen Yeghiazarian stated that they did not turn to the Police of
Abovian town right after the incident, since "the Police in that town
is as intimidated, as the whole population is", and the policeman
on duty in the polling station "was receiving instructions from
the bandits".
Nevertheless, they turned to the Police on their return to Yerevan and
now they are waiting to receive an order for medico-legal examination.
