YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 21, NOYAN TAPAN. The mass meeting of Levon
Ter-Petrosian, which started near Matenadaran (Armenian repository of
ancient manuscripts) since 15:00 on February 20, ended late in the
evening of the same day in the Freedom square. The participants of
the crowded rally did not want to break up and left the square only
listening to the persuasions of Levon Ter-Petrosian. The crowd, which
repeated "Levon", "Victory", "Struggle, struggle to the end", started
crying "Now" in response to the suggestion of Levon Ter-Petrosian on
gathering the next day. However, the candidate made assertions that
he is better informed, than the participants of the mass meeting. He
declared that they will witness a too important event at 15:00 on
the following day. He also made assertions that the statements of
the international observation missions on the elections and the
response of the international community are very favourable for his
supporters. According to Levon Ter-Petrosian, that is a serious policy
and he knows what he should do. He declared that he will not withdraw
even if no one is left beside him.
"We have won and we should be the owner of that victory." He mentioned
that he has a program of definite activities for achieving victory
and assured those present that they will manage to establish legality
in the country.
He also stated that a few Ambassadors of the European Union to Armenia
have turned to him and said that Robert Kocharian has told them that
he, allegedly, is conducting negotiations with Levon Ter-Petrosian at
that moment. "I officially declare that no such thing has taken place,
Robert Kocharian has not offered me to negotiate," the candidate
declared.
Nikol Pashinian, a member of the pre-electoral headquarters of the
candidate persuaded those present to "dress warmly" together with
their relatives and friends and gather in the Freedom square at 15:00
on the next day.
