YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, NOYAN TAPAN. Freedom Square has become part of
Armenia’s state governance system, Levon Ter-Petrosian stated when
making a speech at the February 22 rally. As he put it, the "faction"
of deputies who have joined their movement on the same day and prior
to that is quite large.

(NT: their number already made 18). L. Ter-Petrosian underlined
that 10 National Assembly deputies to have joined them are heroes
of the Karabakh war. (NT: One of them – Hrant Grigorian is a deputy
minister of defence and the nephew of Manvel Grigorian, the chairman
of Yerkrapah Volunteers Union).

L. Ter-Petrosian said that they have gathered in the square not to
inspire each other but they have some work to do, and he is happy with
the process of affairs. He attached special importance to the joining
of Manvel Grigorian, Gagik Jhangirian (deputy prosecutor general)
and Samvel Hovhannisian to the national movement. He announced that
some high-ranking officials of the police and the National Security
Service are conducting negotiations with him, putting forward certain
proposals. L. Ter-Petrosian expressed confidence that the employees
of the middle and lower links of the force structures also sympathize
with their movement and will in no way go againt the people.

He welcomed the participants of the student movement. Addressing
them, L. Ter-Petrosian said that henceforth all higher educational
institutions of Armenia are moving to Freedom Square.
