YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, NOYAN TAPAN. On February 22, RA Prosecutor
General Aghvan Hovsepian mediated RA President to dismiss his deputy
Gagik Jhangirian from his post and to expel him from the prosecutor’s
service.
Noyan Tapan was informed about this by Sona Truzian, the Spokesperson
of the RA Prosecutor General.
On February 22, Mr. Jhangirian made a speech during the mass rally
of the RA first President Levon Ter-Petrosian and his supporters in
Liberty Square and announced his support for the latter.
Sona Truzian said that the RA Law On Prosecutor’s Office forbids
prosecutors to be engaged in politics, the law Article 7 just
establishes: "A prosecutor cannot be a member of any party or
be engaged in political activity in another way, a prosecutor,
in any circumstances, is obliged to show political restraint and
neutrality". G. Jhangirian, according to the Spokesperson, has grossly
violated the demand of the law.
