Statement Of Russian Armenians’ Union On Presidential Elections In R

STATEMENT OF RUSSIAN ARMENIANS’ UNION ON PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN RA

AZG Armenian Daily
23/02/2008

The elections of the President of the Republic of Armenia, held
February 19, 2008 were an important political event for the fate of
the country.

The elections gave the political parties an opportunity of representing
their programs and the people were given the opportunity of comparing
the programs of the presidential candidates and deciding which one was
most dedicated to the development of Armenia, insuring economy growth,
improving life conditions and establishing atmosphere of stability
and concordance.

The elections have been held and the leader of the Republican Party
of Armenia, Serge Sarkisian has been elected president. The election
results are recognized by international organizations, CIS structures
and official observers from numerous foreign states. The opposition
parties argue the results of the elections.

It is possible that some violations occurred in certain election areas,
which were also registered by international observers.

Of course, to our opinion, all the violation cases are to be thoroughly
studied, and the responsible officials punished in accordance to
the Law. Efforts of solving any problem in illegal ways may result
in destabilization of the situation in Armenia cause harm to the
authority of the Republic.

We are absolutely sure: disturbances and clashes caused by illegal
activities are not to be admitted.

Preservation of social stability and consolidation of the nation’s
forces can insure economy progress in Armenia, solution of social
issues, improvement of life conditions, enhancement of the country’s
security and its international role.

We are sure that the Armenian people, as it has done for many times
throughout the centuries, shall overcome all the difficulties and
challenges and head towards stability, prosperity and peace.

A. A. Abrahamian, Head of the World Armenian Congress and the Russian
Armenians’ Union, UNESCO Ambassador of Good Will, Translated by A.M.
