capital

Baku-APA. `The name of New-Nakhichevan and Russian Eparchy of
Armenian Apostolic Church has no connection with Nakhchivan
Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan,’ says the letter of response sent
by Deputy Mayor of Moscow Valeri Vinogradov to the Chairman of the
Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov, APA
reports quoting local media of Nakhchivan.

The letter writes that New-Nakhichevan and Russian Eparchy of
Armenian Apostolic Church was founded under the decree of Emperor
Nikolai I in 1836, and on November 14, 1779, under the decree of
Empress Ekaterina II, a plot of land on the right bank of the River
Don was presented to Crimea Armenians. Vinogradov said that Armenians
founded the city of New-Nakhichevan, which is a part of present
Rostov-on-Don city in 1780, and Russian Eparchy of Armenian Apostolic
Church got the same name. Deputy Mayor also took a stance on the
construction of the above-mentioned church.

`As regards the issue you raised in connection with the construction
of New-Nakhichevan Armenian church, there is no such religious temple
in Moscow. A church `Saint cross’ is being constructed on the request
of New-Nakhichevan and Russian Eparchy of Armenian Apostolic Church.

Vinogradov underlined they are interested in the development of
bilateral relations between Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and
Moscow.

Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic
had sent a protest letter to Mayor of Moscow Yuri Lujkov in
connection with the construction of New-Nakhichevan Armenian church
in the capital of Russia. Besides, 422 telegrams and 204 faxes were
sent by Nakhchivan intellectuals and Russian community of Nakhchivan
in connection with this.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
